Health Care Assistants (HCAs)
The HCAs are specially trained in various aspects of care to assist the Practice Nurses in such as phlebotomy (taking blood samples), blood pressure, ECGs and other tests and treatments.
Secretaries, Receptionists, Administrative Staff
There is a full supporting staff of secretaries, receptionists and administrative and IT personnel, most working on a part-time, shift basis to allow the surgery to be open into the evening for your convenience. These are the people who will welcome you to the practice, make your appointments, answer your general enquiries, organise your repeat prescription and assist clerically in any referrals that may be necessary. The team ensures that each surgery session operates smoothly and efficiently.
Practice Nurses
Our Practice Nurses are on duty during surgery hours to carry out treatments prescribed by the Doctor and to deal with minor injuries and illnesses. They also see our new patients who attend for a registration appointment with us, as well as being involved in the management of our patients with asthma, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic lung disease. Two of our Nurses are qualified to perform cervical smears and provide contraceptive advice. When booking an appointment with the Nurse, please advise the receptionist of the reason in order that the appropriate time can be allocated to a Nurse or Health Care Assistant.
District Nurses
The District Nurses attached to us are in close daily contact with the surgery and confer regularly with the Doctors. They visit, treat and advise patients who are housebound on general care and referral to other agencies. Messages may be left for them on either of our general enquiries numbers - 01923 261035 (KL) or 01442 833295 (Bovingdon).
Health Visitors
Our two Health Visitors are qualified Nurses with midwifery experience who have undergone further training to obtain the Health Visitors Certificate. As advisers on child care, they are notified of the birth of babies and will visit new parents at home as well as being present at the Baby Clinic to offer guidance and support.
They play a major part in operating Child Health Surveillance and Immunisation Clinics and will always be pleased to discuss any aspect of family life with the ability to refer to other agencies which may be of help. Contact them between 9.00 and 10.00am on Kings Langley 265037 or Bovingdon 831126.
Midwife
Together with the Doctor, the Community Midwife provides care and advice during your pregnancy and the postnatal period. She sees patients by appointment in the surgery or may be contacted by telephoning Hemel Hempstead General (01442 213141) and asking for the Maternity Ward.
Counsellors
We are pleased to have the services of two UKCP Registered Psychotherapists. Both use our premises to provide a private service for our patients. Your GP will guide you to the most appropriate counsellor to help with your particular problem - relationship, family, bereavement etc, or you can refer yourself. Please ask the receptionist for an information sheet for you to decide who you wish to see.
Counselling sessions are totally confidential and nothing will be discussed with the Doctors or entered on your medical records without your permission.
This is a private service and charges will be made by the Counsellor.
NHS counselling services are available to our patients only with referral from a doctor.
