Protected and Red List Bryophytes

The Joint Nature Conservation Committee maintain the plant status information for plant species which are nationally threatened, localised or protected in Great Britain. Definitions of these terms can be accessed through the JNCC Plant Status Information page. A spreadsheet containing a list of British bryophytes and their conservation designations can be found here. They include the following categories:

  • Extinct
  • Critically Endangered
  • Endangered
  • Vulnerable
  • Near threatened
  • Data deficient
  • UK Biodiversity action plan species
  • Nationally rare species without an IUCN designation
  • Nationally scarce species without an IUCN designation
