Rather
than going directly to print we have adopted a protocol of electronic
followed by hard-copy self-publication by the BBS. This has a number
of advantages over traditional publishing methods:-
- Most importantly,
BBS has only to update the files in order to revise the guide,
which therefore need never become out of date. Provided the format
of the files does not become obsolete, there will never again
be a need to start from scratch and prepare a completely new guide
unless BBS wishes to do so
- The BBS retains copyright.
- The BBS can publish
and reprint as it wishes, without having to convince a commercial
publisher that the venture will be profitable. And all profits
will accrue to the BBS, rather than most of them going to a commercial
publisher.
