ethics and research governance

All research that involves NHS patients, staff, and premises requires ethics and research governance approval before the research can commence.

The LRU has put together a one-page overview of the stages of setting up a research project and how ethics and research governance applications form part of this.

To download this overview please click here (right click to save).

Please click here (right click to save) for a leaflet specifically about the ethics application process (produced by the SE London Strategic Health Authority).

LRU members can approach the LRU research fellow for support around ethics and research governance applications.

In SE London research governance approval needs to be applied for from the Research Support Unit. The application form can be downloaded from their website: www.researchsupportunit.nhs.uk.

Further information on ethics applications can be obtained from the Central Office for Research Ethics Committees (COREC), www.corec.org.uk.
