Clinical and health services research funded by the Department of Health is organised within research programmes. Each programme is involves a strategic partnership of NHS, social care, and academic institutions.

Researchers seeking LRU support need to conduct research that falls within the programme areas that the LRU leads and collaborates in with other partners.

We lead on two research programmes and predominantly support research in these areas. The LRU lead programmes are:

>   Evaluation of innovation in primary and community care
>

Using the patient experience to improve care

The LRU collaborates in another four programmes led by other research organisations:

>   Common mental health problems in primary care (led by Institute of Psychiatry)
>

Health Inequalities (led by RSU)

>
Sexual and Reproductive Health (led by RSU)
>

Primary Care Trusts Research Priorities (restricted to: maternal & child health, cardiovascular disease & workforce research) – (led by Starnet)
