The Department of Health’s definition of research requires that research work delivers new and generalisable knowledge. But findings are of little value without being disseminated and implemented in practice.
The LRU requires that all supported research work leads to publication in a peer reviewed journal. In addition to this, findings are often presented disseminated via local reports, conference presentations.

To make research relevant it is important to take action based on the findings.

The Department of Health (DH) requires that research supported by its funding is implemented and be shown to have an impact on health service practice, policy or the development of health services.

The LRU supports and requires its members to initiate the implementation of research findings through various local and national channels.
