The Lewisham Research Unit offers research support to practitioners based in the London borough of Lewisham.

Our primary research activities include, providing research support via the research fellow, financing practitioner time for research and small pilot projects, holding members meetings, and disseminating research findings at conferences and via journal publication.

Research members receiving direct support from the Unit, financially, or through the time of the research fellow, are required to attend member’s meetings, present their research proposals/ progress at member meetings, provide a quarterly progress report, and publish and initiate the implementation of their research findings. Support is provided throughout these stages of the research.

The LRU research fellow can provide support with:

     
>   Thinking through your research idea
>   Writing a research proposal
>   Seeking funding
>   Guiding through ethics and research governance applications
>  

Assisting with writing up results

Should you have a research interest or require advice/additional input for your research work, please contact the research fellow.

We support practitioners and managers who have various research involvement. We can support you in:

>   Leading a research study
>   Pilot work or writing up proposals for grant applications
>   Working on degree research project
>   Working as member of a research team
>   Consulting on academic research in primary care
>  

Acting as recruitment site for large trials

The LRU holds regular member meetings at which members present their research studies at different stages of the research process.

The LRU is funded by the Department of Health through the Priorities and Needs and the Support for Sciences funds.

The LRU has two funding schemes that members can apply for:

 

Support for research time scheme
This scheme funds time release to free the practitioner to develop a research protocol, execute a project, and implement the findings.

Pilot research projects scheme
This scheme funds small pilot projects to aid future grant applications.

The above schemes can be applied for at any time. In addition the LRU drives the promotion for these schemes during the course of the financial year.

academic   support  

All research projects are expected to collaborate with an academic partner. Through working with academics, practitioners help build the links between theory and practice, and benefit from the research expertise of academics.

The LRU can assist with developing academic links, although practitioners are encouraged to make their own links.
